Manuel Antonio National Park 

Manuel Antonio National Park is located around 192 kilometers away from the south of the city of San Jose on the pacific coast, is 7 kilometers south of the city of Quepos. It was founded on November 15th 1972 to preserve the richness of the forest and idyllic beaches. It also has an extension of 683 hectares on land and 136,000 acres in marine portion; dedicated to the conservation and ecological tourism oriented to the environmental education.

 

This park has one the most impressive landscapes of Costa Rica and it is internationally recognized as being one of the most biodiversity parks on the planet. Also it has a lot and beautiful white sand beaches and exuberant foliage in the middle of huge mountains and forests that leads to the beautiful sandy beaches. For its excellent climate and scenic beauty is visited by large number of national and international tourism, for which it is currently developing an adequate infrastructure, with emphasis on harmony with nature, of quality but mimicked this to reduce the visual impact and under strict environmental protection. The park also has a great terrestrial and marine biodiversity with wonderful coral reefs. The lush tropical forest, mangroves and lagoons make up one of the most diverse ecosystems. Around 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds are the most frequently viewed residents.

 

First, you will take Costanera South Highway, you will observe beautiful and colorful towns with views of beaches and tropical vegetation along the Pacific Coast until you get to Quepos harbor. Then, you will enjoy a typical Costa Rican breakfast.

 

Arriving to the Manuel Antonio National Park you will take a walk by the rain forest until you get to the beach. There you can take a dip in the beach and take some time to get relaxed. You will be able to enjoy the abundant flora and wildlife that this region offers. Monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, and birds are just some of the species that you will be able to see here. If you chose to hike the trail to Cathedral Point, do not forget your camera; the views of the park and the sea are simply spectacular!

 

The park contains a great system of well-marked trails to allow visitors to explore. Four beaches are contained within the limits of the park: Manuel Antonio, Espadilla Sur, Teloro, and Playita. With their large light sand berms, it is easy to see why they attract beach goers of all ages. The first is separated from the second by a natural land bridge formed by sand accumulations. Visitors may enjoy a roughly hour-long hike from Espadilla to the top of Punta Catedral (100 m). Both Manuel Antonio and Espadilla Sur contain tidal pools and offer the possibility of a very good snorkeling, swimming or just relaxing under the sun. It is awesome!
